What is it about?
Laboratory studies have shown that submicronic particles (size <1 micrometer) are released from fungal cultures. The fungal origin of these particles was unclear, however. We studied submicronic particles blown from cultures of three common indoor fungi by high resolution scanning electron microscopy and identified fragments from spores and mycelium. These findings highlight the contribution of fungal fragments to fungal exposure in mold-contaminated environments.
