What is it about?

We describe a device which can be added to any light microscope, allowing analyses at up to 110°C. In addition temperature gradients of > 40°C/2cm can be established.

Why is it important?

We have shown for the first time thermotaxis in an Archaeon; the second prokaryote at all for which this motility behavior was demonstrated. You can obtain the device TGFD (temperature Gradient forming device) via the University of Regensburg (contact Prof. Wirth).
