Analyze the genetic relatedness of the clinical Campylobacter coli isolates with that of isolates obtained from poultry meat, farmed ruminants, and environmental water sources in the same study area and time frame in order to infer possible transmission pathways of this important pathogen.

Why is it important?

This is the first molecular epidemiological study of Campylobacter coli infection in New Zealand, and one of the few such studies globally. This study analyses the population genetic structure of the bacterium and includes a probabilistic source attribution model covering different animal and water sources. The results are discussed in a global context.
