What is it about?
Fungi do grow inside many houses. But, which fungi do like it there? What makes some fungi thriving in our houses. The inside of our houses is not directly an easy environment for fungi. There is not much food and sometimes it is too dry to grow. Our study show that some fungi are able to deal better with changes in humidity. These fungi are doing well in our houses.

Why is it important?
There is evidence that fungi are related to health problems in houses. However, apart from this, people find the often dark discolorations in their dwellings not very nice. Not may studies address the question why fungi grow in our house. Maybe, with knowledge from these studies, novel ways can be found to get rid of the fungi without large doses of chlorine desinfectant.
