What is it about?

This paper analyses the effectiveness of a new antifungal treatment for valley fever. Both species of fungi that cause the disease were assayed. This drug works as well or better than the standard antifungal Fluconazole.

Why is it important?

Fungal infections like valley fever are notoriously hard to treat in certain patients, and in some cases, patients must take antifungals for the rest of their life. The need to have new and better treatments is clear.

Perspectives

Our group completed the assays to determine species identification and verify all samples tested were indeed either Coccidioides posadasii or C. immtitis.
