Why is it important?

The multiple tautomerization occurred in the enzyme is observed in asparagine residues and peptide bonds around the catalytic residue. This is very important finding not only for cellulase but also for general proteins because this phenomenon has not been taken into account in usual computational simulation of proteins used for drug design, etc.

Perspectives

There are more than 100,000 structures are available in protein data bank, while only less than 90 protein structures have been solved by Neutron crystallography. We suggest the importance of the technique, which can visualize hydrogen and proton in proteins, in addition to typical X-ray structure.
