What is it about?

Stereotypes have been shown to negatively affect performance in a number of arenas including academics and sports. In this paper, we provide a review of studies that have examined stereotypes and the ways in which they can threaten performance. Emphasizing stereotypes in sport settings, this paper offers future directions for sport psychology research as well as applied recommendations for sport psychologists working with athletes who may be affected by stereotypes.
