Mental fatigue can reduce physical performance even without any physiological changes. The role of rating of perceived exertion can be pointed as an important variable that underlies physical performance.

Why is it important?

This relationship between RPE and Physical performance it is important because have implications for physical activities adherence (people are less engaged in activities perceived as high effortful) and in high-performance context.

Perspectives

Writing this article was a great pleasure as it has co-authors with whom I have had long-standing collaborations. If there are variables capable to increase RPE and impair performance, we can think of variables capable of decrease RPE and improve performance.
