What is it about?

We completed an exhaustive literature search which resulted in five studies comparing strict rest to early physical activity. Our examination of the literature suggests that early physical activity during the acute phase (0-7 days) following concussion can reduce the time needed for symptom resolution.

Why is it important?

Current management recommendations call for rest and a gradual return to activity following concussion. Our study highlights the limited evidence examining the role of activity levels on the recovery of concussion. Early physical activity appears to help reduce time needed for symptom resolution, which ultimately can influence the time missed from academics or sport.
