What is it about?
A review of the literature examining PNF stretching compared to static stretching was conducted. A total of five research studies were found directly comparing these techniques. Intervention techniques and populations varied across all studies.

Why is it important?
It's generally thought that PNF stretching is more effective than static stretching due to taking advantage of the inhibition properties associated with stimulating the golgi tendon organ and muscle spindle. The evidence from the five included studies suggest that there is no difference between stretching techniques. Clinicians should use the techniques they ultimately feel they have the most expertise in.
