What is it about?

Physical activity is very important for adolescents with long-term illnesses or disabilities (LTID). In this study, we observed patterns of physical activity of adolescents with LTID from 2002 to 2014. This paper also separated adolescents with LTID who reported sport club participation and non-participation. We found that physical activity levels increased among this population group between 2002 and 2014. We also reported the proportion of boys with LTID who were not sport club members in 2014 is similar to the level of sport club members in 2002.

Why is it important?

Many studies report that adolescents with LTID take part in less physical activity than their peers. This has provided targeted actions to promote physical activity levels. In the twelve years, there has been an increase in PA levels, and this may be attributed to these actions. However, in this paper, there are still few adolescents who meet the physical activity recommendations; at least 60 min of moderate to vigorous physical activities daily. Therefore more work is needed. This study also provides a time perspective for future work.
