Why is it important?

This was a systematic review that assessed a wide range of mobile interventions targeting three inter-related behaviors (physical activity, sedentary behavior, sleep). Both randomized and pre-post studies were included to provide a broad review of the current applications of mobile technologies with older adults.

Perspectives

Technology-assisted interventions are becoming prevalent in the area of physical activity. We undertook this review to get a better sense of the types of approaches used specifically to target older adults. This article provides a thorough overview of published intervention studies up to the year 2018, helping readers orient themselves in the most effective approaches utilizing mobile technologies to change physical activity behavior and sleep in older adults.
