What is it about?

This paper examines if adding omega-3 and branched-chain amino acids supplementation to the dietary regime of old men can protect against apoptosis induced by resistance exercise. This study showed that adding those supplements could partially attenuate the apoptosis resulted from an acute bout of resistance exercise.

Why is it important?

Exercise training in old persons is necessary to delay loss of muscle mass and its negative health consequences but induces apoptosis. Our findings show that adding omega-3 and branched-chain amino acids to the dietary regime of old men can partially counteract the apoptosis induced by exercise.

Perspectives

The world's population is aging and research that addresses the needs of older people is a priority. Exercise is necessary to prevent or reverse loss of muscle mass but vigorous exercise may lead to cell death. This article try to answer if we can through supplementation partially prevent exercise-induced apoptosis and decrease the worthiness of old people in this regard.
