What is it about?

It presents a cost-effective methodology to identify the critical panels of an automobile that are responsible for sound transmission into the passenger compartment.

Why is it important?

At present, there is no way of knowing which vibrating panels of au automobile are primarily responsible for sound transmission into the vehicle interior noise level. This makes noise reduction inside the vehicle very difficult. The present paper presents a new technology that can pinpoint exactly which panels are the primary responsible sound transmission into the passenger compartment.

Perspectives

The most salient feature of this new technology is that it enables engineers to examine the sound transmission issues in a holistic view, rather than local, isolated view point. Meanwhile, it only requires taking measurements once and the sound pressure field inside the 3D space of the passenger compartment can be visualized directly and sound transmission paths can be ranked all at once.
