Infrared properties of PbTe

What is it about?

The optical and semiconductor properties of PbTe coatings are governed by a variety of factors that contribute to its performance. This paper describes the temperature-dependent properties.

Why is it important?

Lead telluride (PbTe) is an important coating material in the infrared, particularly as a high-index layer for high-performance filters in spacecraft applications.

Te-enriched PbTe coating has similar optical and semiconductor properties to bulk material, but behaves differently at temperatures below 75K. Above 75K provides high transparent performance.
