What is it about?
UV irradiation of fused silica leads to a loss in transmission. We present how this loss depends on energy density and number of laser pulses. A model description of this loss is given as well an explanation what may happen on a molecular level. Covered materials are a medium and a high OH synthetic fused silica.

Why is it important?
To be reasonable sure about an optics lifetime in the UV its degradation must be taken into account.
