What is it about?

"Telescope windows" is the umbrella term for the novel optical components we've been working on and here we present their design, strengths and weaknesses along with manufacturing methods. We show that the devices perform their primary task, in this case, the magnifying and de-magnifying of a view. However, in spite of the removal of the worst issue from previous iterations - multiple image formation - there remain flaws which need to be addressed. In the paper, we see the effects of stray light, producing a halo-like boundary around the image in one case and reducing the contrast in another. From this, we concluded that the need to block out this stray light was the main priority for the project going forward.

Why is it important?

The core work retains the potential shown previously to produce a device suitable for treatment of a range of eyesight conditions. In spite of the similarity in content to other proceedings we've given, this talk went into greater detail about the manufacturing of the devices as opposed to the higher-level theoretical work. It was also presented at a conference we had not attended before and thereby reached a new audience.

Perspectives

This was good for the work as it reached a new audience and also gave another of our collaboration an opportunity to present at a conference.
