What is it about?

We adapted a CAD system developed for microcalcification clusters (MCs) on DMs (CADDM) to a newly generated 2D planar projection (PPJ) image from regularized DBT volume. The CNR of the MCs on the PPJ image is enhanced due to multiscale bilateral filtering regularization and background removal. We compared the optimized CADDM for PPJ image with CADDBT developed for DBT volume.

Why is it important?

The two CAD systems have similar average FROC performance; however, CADDM had significantly higher performance at low FP rates whereas the trend reversed when the FROC curves crossed over at 1.2 FPs/view. This indicates that proper combination of the two systems may improve overall performance.
