What is it about?
A new hybrid reconstruction algorithm ART-TVS is developed for few-view computed tomography of strongly absorbing media. It combines the algebraic reconstruction technique with total variation regularization and adaptive segmentation and allows the numerical phantom with high-frequency structure to be accurately reconstructed from only 8 noisy projections.

Why is it important?
The incorporation of the adaptive segmentation into the ART-TV algorithm opens up additional possibilities for minimizing the number of views from which accurate reconstruction is possible.
Perspectives
The proposed algorithm will be studied in physical experiments with phantoms and adapted for ultra-few-view tomography of highly absorbing gas-dynamic media.
