What is it about?
This paper provides a new thinking on using Shannon information content concepts to explain for the turbulence distortions on propagating laser beams. It also explains why the plenoptic sensor is superior to conventional wavefront sensors as it maximizes information collection.

Why is it important?
It provides a unique view of atmospheric turbulence: beam distortion is just a coded information of the beam!
Perspectives
Chensheng Wu is currently working as a postdoctoral research associate in University of Maryland College Park. Dr. Wu has successfully modified the light field cameras into a wavefront sensor (the plenoptic sensor) that can be used to solve coherent wave detection problems.
