What is it about?

Muscle contraction is initiated by the release of calcium into the muscle fibre. In this study the amount of calcium released was measured by measuring the amount of ATP used to pump the calcium out of the cell. A comparison was made between fast and slow muscles and the effects of temperature on calcium release were determined. Finally, the inactivation of calcium release in response to the second of two closely-spaced stimuli was quantified.
