Small pipe inspection robot

What is it about?

Boiler tube inspection is very important for power plant industries after prolonged service. This paper presents the design and development of a small boiler tube inspection robot that is capable of operating in various small pipe configuration. The robot is integrated with camera for better inner pipe visual coverage and magnetic wheel for increasing the traction and manoeuvrability.

Why is it important?

Existing inspection methods using boroscope have several limitations and these can be overcome by deployment of robotic devices : - less dependent on technician judgement - better coverage of inspection area - better quality of images - decision can be made more rapidly
