The study outlines the factors which determine language choice in religious settings in highly multilingual communities like the Southwest region of Cameroon.

Why is it important?

It was found that some factors like the linguistic repertoire of the priests, the availability of religious materials in some languages and the existence of captivating lyrics in some languages are dominant.

Perspectives

This article has shown what motivates participants when they choose a given language in contexts where many codes are available. The use of some languages in such contexts can potentially affect the smooth running of the activity one is performing.
