What is it about?
Identification of Leishmania infantum-infected dogs is crucial for control of canine leishmaniosis. The availability of reliable and rapid in-clinic serologic tests may support immediate diagnosis in suspected cases and permit detection of asymptomatic canine carriers.

Why is it important?
Serologic tests represent an important component in canine leishmaniosis. The immunofluorescence antibody test (IFAT) and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) are the reference tests, but they are time consuming and can only be performed in specialized diagnostic laboratory. Given the importance of canine leishmaniosis, the development of rapid in-clinic tests that require a low level of thecnical expertise would assist immediate diagnosis.
