What is it about?

ABO subtype may lead to imcompatible transfusion and adverse effects, genotyping for ABO subtype is relatively hard due to it's complexity and heterogenity. Here we offer a simple one step solution by Next-generation sequencing to not only perform genotyping, but also to differentiate two codominant alleles and to find novel variants, and copy number variations.

Why is it important?

Our study method can help determine the correct genotype of ABO subtypes and thus eliminate the risk for imcompatible blood transfusion and to improve safety of blood.

Perspectives

I find this method applicable and can be applied to most clinical labs without laborious works. The analysis along with the NGS is powerful and most importantly, it can provide one-step solution to my clinical trouble cases, it also helps to broaden our understanding of different genetic variations can lead to phenotype discrepancies.
