What is it about?
Anti-D immunoglobuline (Ig) is very effective in preventing RhD alloimmunization, although the precise working mechanism is unknown. We found that anti-D Ig also protects against immunisation by other (non-Rhesus) antibodies. Also ABO-incompatibility has a protective effect.

Why is it important?
Our findings are helpful in elucidating the possible working mechanism(s) of anti-D Ig. Our results suggest that the working mechanism is not specific for protection against RhD-antibodies.
