What is it about?
We developed a new method to detect anti-HNA antibodies in patients with immune neutropenias, neonates (NAN) and children (AIN). Anti-HNA-1b was frequently detected more than anti-HNA-1a. Anti-HNA-2 was not detected in NAN, although the antibody was detected in some of AIN. It is important to identify antibody specificity for right treatment.

Why is it important?
The new method has been assessed as a convenient and practical assay system with high sensitivity and specificity. We can detect both anti-HNA alloantibodies and isoantibodies by using whole extracted granulocyte antigens. It is important to detect both antibodies by the method requiring little serum volume, because we diagnose and treat NAN and AIN.
Perspectives
The method will enable clinicians to test and identify antibody specificity in many samples simultaneously. We hope more research by using this method about diseases in relation with anti-HNA antibodies.
