Does seeing a particular object require acquiring a belief about that object? Dretske argues that it does not. My paper assesses Dretske's arguments for this thesis and find them wanting.

Seeing and believing are two central operations of our cognitive system. But how is seeing related to believing? In particular, does the former entail the latter? Answering these and similar questions shall give us important clues about the structure of our cognitive system and about us in general.
