Why is it important?

A lot of unprofessional conduct can go unreported and unaddressed in large institutions such as hospitals. Trainees are in an ideal position to address them because of their wide distribution, their duty hours and the fact that they are in the process of acquiring new skills. In addition, this promotes a culture of professionalism throughout the institution.

Perspectives

When surveyed 6 to 12 months after the exercise, the residents not only addressed more incidents with their colleagues than they had done previously, but they were also more satisfied with the results of those encounters.
