What is it about?

This article is a summary of the work of the Birmingham Medical Leadership Society. We have explained why we set up a lecture series and intercalated degree in medical leadership for medical students. We wanted to show that it is possible to make this topic interesting and engaging for a general audience, and that medical students are interested in learning about how to run and improve health services.

Why is it important?

This article provides a clear road map for others to copy and we hope will be helpful to anyone else interested in teaching leadership and management.

Perspectives

For me, this article is the summation of 4 years of work. To see the Birmingham Medical Leadership Society go from a group of students to a society that has hosted 20 events and helped found a new degree programme has been an amazing journey.
