What is it about?

This paper shows that soils in tropical savannas vary widely along riverine forests.

Why is it important?

We show that riparian soils are not only hydromorphic as often assumed, but highly variable. Also, huge soil organic C stocks are reported, with obvious importance to global C cycles.

Perspectives

There are few data on tropical riparian soils, and such studies are likely to be more important as more knowledge is required on soil-climate interactions.
