What is it about?
In the article I ask the questions what the institutional obstacles are that make it difficult for Poles to have more than one child. Policy makers mostly focus on solutions that help with combining parenthood with paid employment. I argue that it is not enough. According to what I learned through interviews with Polish parents, the Polish welfare state should look more carefully on the issue of poor working conditions of the Polish labour market, precarisation of employment, gender inequalities, as well as poor housing situation of Polish families.

Why is it important?
The issue is important, because Polish society is experiencing rapid process of ageing, which would have severe consequences for future generations.
Perspectives
I hope this article helps to look at the issue of fertility in a broader perspective.
