What is it about?
This article examines cooperative members' community engagement and compare the probability of their community engagement to that of other types of membership organizations. It uses cooperatives in Venezuelan, but the study can/should be replicated in other countries.

Why is it important?
This study is about the effect of cooperative membership on community engagement rather than the effect on financial or economic performance that the majority of other studies about cooperatives focused on. At the same time, this is a quantitative study, given that most studies of cooperatives were conducted qualitatively.
Perspectives
I wanted to underline the possible role of cooperatives in generating an attitude something like, 'concern for the community' through the involvement in cooperatives. The 7th organizational principle of cooperatives is 'concern for the community', but no quantitative studies examined this concept. This study will be the starting point to reveal the cooperatives' potential to develop such attitude.
