What is it about?
Adversity is something every athlete experiences. This study has shown that athletes who experienced a moderate number of adverse life events (e.g. death of family member) performed better under pressure in a pressurised sporting task and produced favourable cardiovascular responses.

The findings from this study are important as it demonstrates that experiencing adversity can benefit performance under pressure and lead to favourable cardiovascular responses. Thus, coaches and sports psychologists should consider introducing adversities into training as this could positively influence their performance and health.
