What is it about?

We investigated whether lateral connection between muscles may have functional role in humans. We found that muscle activity, as compared to passive condition, induced decrease in the relative displacement of SOL and LG suggesting stronger (stiffer) connectivity between the two muscles in active condition, at least at flexed knee joint angles, which may serve to facilitate myofascial force transmission.
