Why is it important?

The paper shows that who-you-know can trump professional know-how, in particular situations. Thus, the idea of meritocracy and perfect competition must be re-examined.

Perspectives

For years, scholars have examined the inward foreign direct investment (FDI) entering Malaysia. Little is known about Malaysia's outward FDI. This paper attempts to fill this intellectual lacuna by showing how Malaysian outward FDI actually takes root in Vietnam (one of the most popular investment destination for multinational corporations).
