What is it about?

Life in rural and urban areas in Sweden differ in regard to social support and health care. We could show that persons with dementia living in rural areas are less likely to live in a nursing home than their urban counterparts at the time of dementia diagnosis. There was no difference between these groups in mortality.

Why is it important?

Our findings show differences in access to nursing homes between urban and rural settings. This is important, because our results should be considered in the future healthcare decisions to ensure equality of health care across rural and urban areas.

Perspectives

I think it is a topic of great importance to ensure an equal health care system in all parts of Sweden.
