What is it about?
This study explores how dentists in Jordanian hospitals view and approach treating people with intellectual disabilities. It examines their attitudes, comfort levels, and willingness to provide dental care for this group. The study also looks at factors such as training and experience that may influence how dentists respond. The goal is to better understand current perspectives and identify areas where education and professional support can improve dental services for people with intellectual disabilities.

Why is it important?
People with intellectual disabilities often face barriers when trying to access proper dental care. Dentists’ attitudes and confidence play a major role in whether patients receive appropriate and respectful treatment. Understanding these attitudes helps health systems and universities improve training programs and clinical preparation, leading to more inclusive and higher-quality dental care.
Perspectives
As an author, I was motivated to study this topic because access to dental care for people with intellectual disabilities is closely linked to provider attitudes and preparedness. By documenting dentists’ perspectives in Jordanian hospitals, this work aims to raise awareness and support better training and policy efforts to ensure equitable oral health care for this population.
