What is it about?

Chlamydia Trachomatis is an infectious disease responsible for the majority of blindness in the world. Similar to other strains of Chlamydia, it has an unusual life cycle. It is proliferation is different from the usual infectious disease and requires a different type of treatment.

Why is it important?

WHO wishes to eradicate the disease and has not been completely successful. Knowing the mechanism for proliferation and the optimal way for its spread would help in this effort.

Perspectives

The three models of different complexities offer a set optimal control problems with complex but elegant solutions. They provide very nice illustrations for the solution process by the Potryagin maximum principle.
