In this article we conduct an analysis of the main determinants of personal income inequality in both urban and rural areas of the Northeast region of Brazil.

Why is it important?
In terms of methodology, the article breaks new ground because it takes into account the possibility of selectivity bias in estimating earning equations. The data base used is relatively recent (2013 socio-economic survey) and the results obtained are interesting because they show the relative importance of various factors in explaining income inequality in northeastern Brazil.
