What is it about?

We measured β-glucuronidase activity -a lyosomal enzyme released in the extracelluar space durind inflammation- in culture positive and culture negativethe bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF)of children with airway inflamation. We showed significant increase of β-glucuronidase activity in BALF of children with culture-positive bacterial inflammation. In our population β-glucuronidase activity proved to be of superior predictive ability for bacterial lung infection as compared to other markers of inflammation.
