What is it about?

It is a small species described from Quintana Roo, Mexican Caribbean, on the basis of comparative morphology and ribulose bisphosphate carboxylase gene sequence analysis. and dioecious gametophytes, the branching thalli, and its epiphytic habits.

Why is it important?

Several miniscule species of Laurencia have been described, among which L. minuscula Schnetter (1975), L. minuta Vandermeulen et al. (1990) and L. minuta ssp. scammaceae Furnari and Cormaci (1990), however morphological characteristics are not enough to delimit them, so we consider that further molecular studies are still necessary, particularly with the minuscule Laurencia species to allow future comparisons with the representatives of the complex.

Perspectives

Molecular studies are a great tool to delimit complexes of species as Laurencia, so they are highly recommended
