Why is it important?
There is a limited number of studies in the literature that contain conflicting data on the subject, and therefore there is a need for research to better understand the period after liver transplantation for patients. This study suggests that liver transplant recipients will determine the relationship between anxiety and depression and psychosocial adjustment and will contribute to the literature. This research is also due to the fact that the liver transplant recipients in Turkey have psychologically inadequate support and the need to raise awareness about the issue.
Perspectives
According to the results of this study, the risk of experiencing anxiety increased and the psychosocial adjustments decreased when the ages of the patients undergoing liver transplantation decreased. The female patients undergoing transplantation were determined to have a higher risk for experiencing anxiety. Almost all of the patients undergoing liver transplantation showed low psychosocial adjustment. In terms of psychosocial adjustment, the adjustments of the patients who were single, had a moderate socioeconomic level, and were employed were determined to be worse. As the anxiety risks of the patients increased, the patients’ adjustments with their domestic and psychological environments were negatively (badly) affected; when their depression risks increased, their adjustments with the social and psychological environment were negatively (badly) affected at the same time.
