Why is it important?
We show that project managers with experience in the specific technical challenges associated to a project are less reluctant to include other subsidiaries than the main one, and this is reflected in a 10% average increase in project margins
Perspectives
Normally companies use standardization and modularity to ease interoperability of their subsidiaries in the context of large projects. Yet, often highly innovative project entail non-standard solution that make this approach not fully viable. We find that selecting the right project leader can mitigate this problem. Specifically, project managers with experiences about the unique requirements of a projcet can anticipate where problems will arise and hence are less afraid of allocating project work to different units.
