What is it about?

We describe here results of kinetic studies on the chemiluminescence of the reaction of an oxalic ester with hydrogen peroxide. The data indicate that sodium salicylate is acting as a base catalyst, not a nucelophilic catalyst in this system. The reaction kinetics are well reproducible and the transformation can be utilized for analytical applications in anhydrous media.

These studies are part of our general research project to study the chemiexcitation mechanisms of efficient chemiluminescence transformations with the objective to formulate general principles for excited state formation by chemical transformations.
