What is it about?

It is an analysis of four budgetary roles (Wildavsky 1984, Good 2007) underpinning poor municipal fiscal conditions in Thailand.

Why is it important?

It shows evidently how poor socioeconomic conditions as well as poor budgeting practices can bring about poor fiscal conditions to municipal governments. The research helps increase our understanding about the causes of municipal fiscal conditions from non-western contexts and how budgeting practices in developing countries have taken place in reality.

Perspectives

This is a mixed method study of municipal fiscal condition in Thailand using quantitative analyses of municipal fiscal conditions and then qualitative assessment from case-studies. Both of the methods compliment to one another in that they help reveal the causes and outcomes of municipal financial positions in Thailand. This kind of research is barely carried out in a non-western context.
