Why is it important?

Research is needed to better understand the critical challenges of current dementia care practice in the countries like Nepal. Our findings shows that limited educational training, sparse competence in mastering residents’ cognitive disturbances and behavioral and psychological symptoms in dementia and insufficient resources to ensure sufficient numbers of healthcare professionals and medical doctors for proper diagnostic examination, treatment and dementia specific care were identified as the critical challenges in the Nepalese old age homes.

Perspectives

Writing this article was a great pleasure as it concerns about one of the common emerging health problems among elderly. Very less attention has been given to the dementia care in the LMICs like Nepal and our article reflects the understanding of challenges related to dementia care practice. Through this article, we would like to draw the attention of government, policy makers, different private and government organizations to recognize and address the complex needs of the people living with dementia.
