Why is it important?

Research studies about nurses on boards mostly focus on board composition. Until research evidence demonstrates nurses' contributions to board effectiveness and organizational performance, it is unlikely that nurses will be ubiquitously appointed to boards of directors.

Perspectives

Board effectiveness and organizational performance result from the voting members around the board table. Nurses' expertise, perspectives, and knowledge contribute to board effectiveness and organizational performance, but more research is needed to investigate this phenomenon.
