What is it about?
This article examines a brief history of men in nursing. Male nurses are serious about their education in nursing. They have many challenges including confronting the bias about being a male entering the profession expressed by other nurses, family, and friends. They take their desire to become a nurse very seriously and are dedicated to becoming a professional nurse.

Why is it important?
Male students want to be known as "nurses" not "male nurses." The have qualities that are caring, compassionate, and dedicated to their education in BSN programs
Perspectives
I have been a nursing professor for over 30 years. Nursing program curriculum is very challenging. Nursing students are caring, compassionate, and motivated to be successful. Some of my most dedicated students have been both female and male nursing students. Male nursing students are challenged by society about their decision to become a professional nurse. Nurses should not be judged by their gender because throughout the history of nursing, men have contributed to the foundation of the nursing profession.
