Biotic and abiotic controls of nitrogen fixation in cyanobacteria–moss associations

What is it about?

Nitrogen (N) fixation by moss-associated cyanobacteria is a main source of “new” N in pristine ecosystems. In this review, I describe the current state of knowledge on the topic, and list challenges that need to be addressed. I propose to use moss-cyanobacteria associations as model system to unravel how plant-microbe symbioses evolved.
